Herculaneum....

A truly amazing day at this historic site which gave a huge insight into the devastating eruption of Vesuvius in AD79. We went with new friends and got to the site before the crowds and so had time and space to look around without being or having to move on too quickly.

Too much to share of that here but I have my guide book and map and will look at it again before filing it away. I think the saddest think to note is the population believed Vesuvius to be a mountain not a volcano and were unaware what was really happening when it erupted.

My extras show other memories of the day: with our friends and my attempt to be a barmaid!
