The Old Home Town

Housesteads Roman Fort on Hadrian's Wall was our first stop today, and the only day on the whole tour when it bucketed down and we got soaked five times!

After a lunch stop in Hexham we went on to Washington, home of the family of US president George. No, not that Washington! The one in Tyne & Wear!

Washington Old Hall is a beautiful old building with a lovely garden and the sun shone warmly.  George never came here but it's none the worse for that and his fellow-countrymen and women enjoyed hearing about the connection.

Our hotel for the next three days was a modern edifice on the outskirts of Durham.
