Pentland Firth

Looking north across Thurso Bay towards Orkney, with the ferry from Scrabster to Stromness crossing the notorious Pentland Firth. Notorious for its fierce tidal races that can reach 16 knots, as the forces of the Atlantic and the North Sea meet in a narrow channel. You can just make out the Old Man of Hoy - a prominent sea stack - at the western tip of the Island of Hoy.
