Hear The People Sing

What a wonderful and inspiring afternoon we have just spent.
Managed to get tickets to see a special performance of Les Miserables in Batley this afternoon.

There won't be many in the UK who won't know the name of Jo Cox, a young local MP who was tragically murdered approximately one year ago.
The production we saw was performed by the newly formed Batley and Spen Youth Theatre Company who have come together because of an arts initiative.
This initiative led to West End luminaries coming up to Yorkshire and bringing their expertise and creativity to this unique production.
All the direction, costumes, staging and lighting were brought up from London theatres under the guidance of the professionals and they have trained young students to do everything to put on such a show both front and backstage.
It was performed in the round in a huge warehouse normally used as an Oxfam Wastesaver centre and very fitting as Jo had strong links with this charity.
The whole initiative was to do something in Jo's name that would provide a type of legacy for young people and it had to be fitting for her memory.
In her maiden speech in Parliament she spoke of the diverse communities she represented.and remarked how we have more in common than what divides us.
Jo would have loved today.
We certainly did.
