twinned with trumpton

By MrFT

Last day of freedom (for us both) for a while.

So we dropped G at Haggs at her sister's and carried on further west to Cardross intent on a litte roam through the woods there.
St Peter's Seminary was our aim so we duly parked the car, jumped the fence and traisped up through the woods; the drizzle somehow just about abating, but muggy and eerie nonetheless.

The notices about 24 hour security were proved to be true for once; a portakabin and a car parked adjacent so we had to satidfy ourselves with a prowl around the compound, gaping in, ooooh ing and aaaahing as we peered in through the bars. I do think it's easy enough to get in and have a look about; maybe it needs a dawn raid or something. We'll see. An impressive structure; much to admire even from afar. There's a lot to be said for concrete.....and all of it good.

After that we retired to Dumbarton for the rest of the day; poking about and hitting the heights of the castle; somewhere I've not been since I was about 7. Still - to me  - one of the best Scottish castle in terms of location and situation; perched on top of the twin peaked volcanic plugs right next to the Clyde.

A good day; we sat an had her courgette / mushroom / parmesan soup inthe sun, out of the wind behind the bowling club peering into the gloom that enveloped the west of Scotlan but somehow in our own little pocket of sunshine and warmth.

Then the 3 hour battle with the traffic to get back to collect G and deposit her at her gymnastics; her incessent sniping giving way to open hostility.

We grabbed an hour and a bit for herring and then steak and then I was off home to slump (post migraine fatigue) into a deep deep sleep.
