Speckled Wood

Today's the day .......................... to identify

I was in the garden today, enjoying the spell of warm sunny weather, when this butterfly came to join me.

It wasn't one that I was familiar with, but it stayed, basking in the sunshine on an ivy leaf, long enough for me to go inside to find my camera and take a picture of it.  I did try unsuccessfully to find it in my butterfly Field Guide - but then I  remembered the excellent Butterfly Conservation website.  You just stick in a few details of what you can see and it goes off and does the hard work for you.

So - hopefully I have got it right and this is a beautiful Pararge aegeria or Speckled Wood.  Let me know if you think differently ........................
