The Sounds of Summer

This is a type of cicada known, I believe, as Aburazemi.  They are extremely noisy little buggers.  After a few shots I had to retreat to give my ears a rest.

Different cicadas make different noises.  If you are interested here's a link to a handful of them with an explanation of what they mean and in some cases how they sound to the Japanese ear.

In the extras a little bee and a funky metallic beetle.  I saw a much larger and more beautiful type of iridescent metallic beetle buzzing around and spent a while following it in random directions but couldn't get a photograph.  It must have been close to a couple of inches long.
