Stones of Scotland

George Wyllie's "Stones of Scotland" was opened in 2000, in the park in Regent Road, Edinburgh to mark the opening of the Scottish Parliament. It was created in association with Kenny Munro and Lesley-May Miller.

The 32 stones, one from each local authority in the country, form a circle, in which a tree and a centre piece stone look both back and forward. The stone in the centre is inscribed, "whose the foot that fits the tread?"

While taking photos of "Stones of Scotland" for the education initiative, a family arrived to wander round it, letting their little girl put her foot in the tread and clamber over the stones, exploring. It seemed just what George Wyllie had in mind.
