My beloved Oslo - Holmenkollen Chapel

I have blipped this chapel in 2011 from the other side and wrote some of it's history in that blip.

Holmenkollen Chapel is situated beside the ski arena. The Norwegians love nature and many of us prefer hiking or skiing on Sundays instead of going to Church.  So in 1890 Hans Krag, got the idea: Why don't we take with us the church to the woods! The architect Holger Sinding-Larsen drew the timber chapel and got inspiration from our stave churches. In 1903 the chapel was finish, and inaugurated in 1913.

The Chapel is very popular all year around, and our Royal Family attends the Christmas service. 

In 1992 we got shocked that a Satanist, totally crazy, put the chapel on fire. He got convicted for three church fires and got out of prison for about a year ago. He says he is not sorry for the fires. 

Anyhow the chapel was rebuilt in 1996 and is one of our dearest buildings in Oslo. It is service every Sunday and there 200 seats. 

I rather like that our royal family prefer this little wooden chapel at Christmas instead of the Dome.
