Autumn's Gold

The trees drank from the same water that the prospectors panned, absorbing gold along with the other minerals. It was possible to find traces of the precious metal beneath their bark. This wasn't economically viable, but it did give smart-Alec kids a comeback to the effect that, yes, money DID grow on trees.
