Mert Ottobeuren

During the course of the near 3 month roof building works, the Mert Kebab Cafe and Take-Away in Ottobeuren became a crucial supplier of the builders lunch on one days of the week when I was responsible for their physical welfare.

Although very central in Ottobeuren, the shop itself is at a location which makes quickly stopping to jump out and collect something, impossible. As lazy as we have become, the 50-100 metre walk from one of the car parks is taken to be a task equivalent to climbing Mount Everest.

However Mert is moving in the coming months just a very short distance to a site next to the excellent Pedro's Ice Cream cafe, directly on the square and no doubt with the possibility to set up a largish outdoor seated area in good weather.

Charming Turkish couple own the business which includes a party service using their mobile van shown in the Blip. The owner Mr Ahmet Bozdag holds the honorary title of "Echter bayrischer Türke" - Genuine Bavarian Turk - given to him by the Ottobeuren "Homeland Club" which seeks to preserve local culture, traditions, dialects etc but certainly not in the nationalistic sense.

One day I will manage to get son J to take his brother-in-law Barry to this place and persuade him to have his first ever Kebab.
