I was just about to leave home for work when I got a call from dad's carer to say he wasn't well and they couldn't get him out of bed. Suspecting an infection the emergency services were called, and we were soon on our way to hospital. After blood and urine tests he hadn't got an infection but his Rheumatoid Arthritis markers were through the roof.

There isn't much that can be done at present other than painkillers. He's being weaned off steroids to be able to start taking more permanent medication. So his pain and mobility problems have been getting worse over the past few weeks. We got him home by lunch time but he looked quite worn out. We've only got just over a week to wait for the new drugs to be sorted out. Hopefully we can make it before he deteriorates any further.

We returned after lunch and did a quick blitz clean on his flat. He seemed a little better.

After all that we needed a breather so went off to Trentham Gardens for some fresh air.  I felt guilty sipping a glass of wine, while we enjoyed the sunshine, knowing how dad was doing but at least he's back at home, and not facing a stay in hospital.
