Voyage of a Beagle & Lab

First Day at the Beach

We took the girls (as the four legged are now know) and their two legged brother to the beach today. The two legged girl is away on holiday with her friends but we'll come to that later!
I think it's the first time we've been to the beach and I wished it wasn't sunny, honestly chaos ensues everywhere we go! Our whole week has been carefully planned around a garden project and Thursday was our day off to give the girls a beach walk and what does the sun do but decide to shine (I'd gardened in the rain earlier in the week), our usually quiet, blustery beach was busy, not Spanish resort busy just Fife coast on a Thursday busy but this was enough when you clearly can't control two dogs! Coco decided to slip in a quiet poo on the move in the path of a bare footed gentleman, disaster avoided only by Duncan's sudden shriek, she then refused to walk off her lead - she always gets off in the sand dunes but it was lunchtime and too many people were picnicking, beagles and picnics don't mix! Once we moved along the beach a little, thankfully picnickers don't seem to be able to move far from their cars, we let them off and Sammy ran straight into the sea and a game of ball a gentleman and his lab were having - my apology and explanation of first time in the sea weren't really well received but I'm sure his lab was 5 months old and bouncy once upon a time. Quiet bit of beach was found and lots of fun was had with a ball and a frisbee until it floated out a bit and Sammy lost interest, we thought it was lost but as it was washed back in D thought he could get it, wet up to his knees! He did take it well and didn't complain about wet socks and shoes once! I do think Sammy will be a swimmer, she's quite happy in the water unlike Coco who has never been in past her knees.
Ky sent a further update on her holiday and some lovely pictures from the beach party they'd been to - all too much for her dad, he's seriously struggling with the whole 18 year old, independent daughter thing. Only 4 sleeps until she's home, how is the poor man going to cope when she moves out in September?
