At the book festival today in Edinburgh standing waiting to hear James Kelman, a favourite author of mine, I snapped left then right.
A few minutes later Scotland's first minister Nicola Sturgeon emerged,  passed us, and with her entourage and minders, headed down that metal path to slip out a 'secret' back gate across the road to her official residence, the Georgian "Bute House", a side door of which you can glimpse across the road
