Bhangra Dancer

Today I went to the first Oswestry Culturefest in the centre of the town. It's aim was to celebrate cultural diversity in it's many forms including racial, religious, disability, age, sexual etc. It was a very good and varied event with lotsof things to see.

There was a stall manned by the Syrian Refugee families that have been housed in the town. They were giving out plates of Syrian food including lightly spiced rice, falafel, hummus, salad and other bits and pieces too. There was no charge as they were giving it as a thank you to the town for their help and support. It was delicious!

There were different types of music and dancing displays to add atmosphere - this photo is of one of the bhangra dancers that came from Birmingham to perform. The instrument is called a Sapp and is a traditional bhangra dance instrument native to Punjab.

There were also lots of stalls selling local produce - I bought bread, cheese and pork pie which made a lovely lunch with some salad.
