Village Store

This is Jordans Village Store, just a few minutes walk from Jordans Quaker Meeting House where I was attending a workshop today on labyrinths. The store, supported by a number of volunteer staff, is a general grocers, with green groceries, an off-licence, and a part time sub-Post Office. Its coffee corner also serves as a meeting place for many of those living in and around the village, and a welcome place to stop for walkers. When I popped in this morning, just inside the door was a stand of fruit and veg, which I guess was surplus produce from someone's allotment, with an invitation for people to help themselves and leave a contribution to help with the running costs for the shop. Next to this was a donation point for a local food bank, with a list of items that were particularly needed. To me, it's a model of how a village store can serve as a community hub.
