Liquor is quicker...not any more!

Back in April I blipped an earlier stage in the metamorphosis of this former discount off-licence into a centre for collecting, sorting and distributing surplus food from shops and growers, together with a cafe as a community resource and a training opportunity. The project was hatched under the umbrella of Fishguard's Transition Town initiative which encourages and supports sustainable living ideas.

Being dependent upon volunteer labour, donated/scrounged equipment and materials, and the goodwill of local businesses and charitable organisations, work on the shell of the old booze store has progressed rather haltingly until one of the team wandered into a local branch of Wickes Home Improvement Store on Friday and enquired whether they supported social enterprise projects. After an initial 'sorry' there was a complete change of heart and here first thing Monday morning (today) a manager and a kitchen designer have arrived to discuss our needs, make plans and propose gifting not only materials, fittings and fixings, but labour as well, thus getting it done in a fraction of the time and cost envisaged.

Here Ann, Chris and Tom are talking to Tony from Wickes and almost quivering with excitement as weeks of hard slog, begging and borrowing look to be eliminated by the company's generosity and can-do attitude.
Liquor may be quick but Wickes are quicker: thumbs-up for them!
