Where the Light Gets In

Ar Yeun Elez

a gateway to hell
where you might meet the Ankou ---
calmer nowadays

The Yeun Elez is the western parts of the Monts d'Arrée, what is left of the old Armorican massif. In ancient times, people thought it was a place where you could access hell, because the peaty terrain was often prone to "spontaneous" combustion (the vegetation was actually lit up by lightning). The marshes (now dried up) were told to be bottomless, too...

A nice place for the Ankou to roam...

Extra: the Sant Mikael ar Menez Are (Saint Michael of the Monts d'Arrée) Chapel, which I blipped a few years ago already.

Before that, we had driven to the Pointe Saint Mathieu, at the end of the bay of Brest. There's, of course, a lighthouse there, as well as a 12th century abbey (of what's left of it), a slightly less old church etc. And, of course, the sea...

Second extra: Looking out to sea.
