Spellbound

The summer seems to have passed so quickly -- tonight was the last summer concert of the season. Regulars Jean, Jean-Jacques and Bruno came in their chanson française guise (as opposed to the New Orleans jazz guise with a couple of extra musicians). The advantage of this version is that Bruno gets to do the singing, and he has an excellent voice and great skill at conveying different moods. A good mixture of very well known songs from the likes of Brassens, Brel, Trenet, Nougaro, Ferrat, plus less known ones and a composition by Bruno.

It was a lovely warm evening, and the amphitheatre was fuller than it's been all summer. It's kind of a shame that people will flock to the familiar (Santandrea and friends have been playing here for 28 years) and stay away from the more unusual. I decided to skip a standard photo of the musicians and go for a moody audience shot. There are musician photos right from here.

Earlier, aperos and a barbie in the garden, our low-rent Côte d'Azur. Instead of an infinity pool, we have an inflatable paddling pool filled with well water, and instead of a black-jacketed waiter bearing a tray of champagne and elegant canapés, we consume blanquette de Limoux and Pringles, followed by grilled red mullet wrapped in leaves from our vine.
