Waverley approaches...

An all-too-brief visit to my favourite island (all of 85 minutes) draws to an end as we spot PS Waverley circling Brodick bay to return to the pier after her cruise round Holy Isle.

We'd had time for two-thirds of a game of putting and a horrified realisation of how badly the beach continues to suffer from erosion. We had fish and chips waiting for us on board, but I badly wanted to go back to one of the houses I've called home in Brodick - home to a boiled egg, a floury muffin with strawberry jam, perhaps a Kit-Kat, tea ... and I'd be ten years old, with bare feet in scuffed sandals and sand between my toes.

Dream on, eh?
