Rievaulx Abbey

It's a while since we stopped at Rievaulx on our way home and they've made quite a few changes to the visitors centre since we were last there.  Very good it was too as the shape echoes a church and the floor to ceiling window frames the abbey.  We left Danby in sunshine but by the time we got to the abbey the light was pretty flat so I had to look hard for a view that wouldn't give me burnt out sky.

We got home to a few more problems, well at least the worst one has been a problem for our roofers.  It appears that when they removed the tiles (which had been glued down and pinned with galvanised nails) they discovered rotting timbers, so we're expecting our costs to grow exponentially !!  We are pleased that they've discovered the problem - think how dreadful it would have been if the roof had collapsed.  They saved some of the rotted timber to show us and John also had photos of the new timber they'd put in place.  I think he still wants to treat the stonework which abuts the roof so that there are not spores left which might start the process again.

We've had quite a time sorting out since we've got back.  Maybe it's time to move on!!
