Rave On, Raevennan!

Prog-folk band Moulettes were in town today, playing at the Folk on the Dock festival - and they made quite a contrast to the shanty singers on the neighbouring stages!

My subject today is their guitarist and vocalist Raevennan Husbandes who is a joy to watch on stage. Not only does she play guitar like a woman possessed but she dances her socks off as she does so! She puts me in mind of Prince, who also had the ability to strut his stuff whilst peeling off a seemingly effortless solo.

Perhaps Raevennan’s exuberance is related to her recovery from the rare auto-immune condition Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) Syndrome with which she was struck down in 2010, leaving her temporarily blind, deaf and unable to use her legs.

Seeing her perform now, it seems impossible to believe she can have gone through such a traumatic experience but thank goodness she made it out the other side. No wonder she’s such a force of nature on stage!

Here she is performing ‘Behemooth’ with the mighty Moulettes www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZTibl44hNg
