Aloe seed pods

These are the seed pods of the Aloe Secundiflora. The flowers are an orange-red colour and small and bell shaped.

The plants origin is Africa in the mountains of Kenya and Tanzania.

It is an evergreen succulent which is drought-tolerant and totally suitable for xeriscaping, and is commonly seen here in the gardens in Albuquerque. It grows to around 6' tall (about 2 metres) and up to 4' wide.

I found it hard today to top yesterdays antique Spanish door photo, but this photo was taken about 100 metres from that wonderful door!
