The tragedy of Poverty

26th August 2017:

Celebrations at the end of Summer school.
This puffy crisps taste pretty awful, have no nutrition, are addictive, but they love them.
This is a present from Florence for all their hard work.
I was so happy that we had 4 weeks of great work from the teachers and girls and lots of fun as well.

But this morning I got a What’s App from Florence that has broken my heart.
As part of our Girl Child project, we have a counselor, Ruth,  for the girls, because so many have issues you can’t even imagine.

Ruth, was a district nurse who came to St John of God College of Health Sciences to train as a counselor . She has recommended that three girls go to the St John of God Service.

Florence wrote:

1.     She is living With her sister ( different father but the same mother), her sister is doing prostitution to feed the family .Both parents run away and leave the kids alone .

2. She lost her both parents while she was young and now she is living with her aunt who worries that  her performance is going down and down.

3. She have a baby, through rape by an older man, while she is too young.  (14)

All day we are discussing ways of providing the food for that family and other help we may be able to give.

Florence will begin tomorrow, something she does so well.
