There is a fine line I think between anecdotes describing how our neighbours impact our lives and spiteful tittle-tattle. I hope I have not crossed that line.

Their 30 year-old dishwasher is not functioning correctly and since it is older than the physiotherapist, getting spare parts for it may prove a little tricky. It has reluctantly been agreed to replace it with a new one so we are required to help with that. Hardware George has a replacement in stock but it is not exactly as wide as the gap between the kitchen units and so one that is must be ordered from the mainland. It is extremely unlikely to reach here before next Saturday, by which time they are all supposed to be on the early boat out of here.

Earlier in the year B's niece assured us that this would be their very last visit and that afterwards B proposed to sell up to ensure there was enough capital in place for them both to have full-time care as and when that became a necessity. The niece is very sad about that. She has had very many happy holidays here and I think had rather hoped to inherit. Quite how quickly B thinks he will be able to offload find a purchaser for a festering monstrosity quirky villa such as this, or how much he will get for it is another matter entirely; Greek property has not been shifting for at least the last seven years. I don't imagine that a brand-new dishwasher which fits exactly into the gap left by the old one is going to be the deciding factor on the sale of the house.

Meanwhile B just loves my little story and thinks I should write another. It was difficult to explain that I probably won't, but easier than telling him that my next fairy story is a non-fiction work in progress and is about him and A.
