Reading the Proclamation

We went to the opening of the Stourbridge Fair today. This is now an interesting tourist attraction but in the middle ages this was the largest fair in the country. The proclamation is read out by the Proctors accompanied by the bulldogs. They are like the police and magistrates of the university and very ancient office. Well worth a look up on the internet if you like history.
