Smoky sky

The Eagle Creek fire in the Columbia River Gorge  doubled in size last night due to the brisk winds.Tonight the weather is more favorable, and the fire is slowing down. Several hundred homes have been evacuated. The landmark Multnomah Falls Lodge has at least so far been kept from burning. We had a smoky day here, and little specks of ash falling over everything. The sun was a reddish ball, casting an eerie light about. Altogether 57 large fires are burning in the Western States,
I heard in the news tonight.
