Defender of the Faith

Life slowly getting back to normal after the last two days fun. Took this photo though for Cal who almost perfectly navigated me on Sunday through the labyrinth of Munich and kept an eye out on the Satnav that I kept on course. And he didn't even change the language setting. He was sitting up front in the 3 seat row and quite understandably crashed on his father's shoulder in the last hour or so of the night return journey - Dad stepped in though. At some point during the day, Cal and I had talked about Land Rovers in Germany. Today's Blip taken after the dog walk at Ottobeuren.

Took the back road home and spotted two Steyr tractors, originally an Austrian, then an Austro-German and finally an Italian multi CNH, registered in Amsterdam but with its HQ in London for tax purposes. As. New Holland tractors also belong to the group, they do though have some production in Basildon, Essex

In the 90's Steyr produced tractors for Marshall Sons & Co tractors. They also manufactured trucks for ERF in the UK. Both companies now dead and buried.

I have not been very good on my Tractor Tuesday contributions so include the Steyr tractors in the Extra Photos. Steyr tractors originating from Austria and Steyr, traditionally heavily involved in 4x4 vehicles, were often perceived to be good on hilly fields. A part of the Steyr group was split into Magna Steyr who will be involved in producing the new Jaguar I-Pace and E-Pace SUVs and has over the years built 4x4s for almost all car manufacturers. Memmingen and the airport are in the far background on the right. I have geo-tagged today's entry to the tractors rather than Ottobeuren's Basilica Landy.

As I saw recently, it is increasingly difficult to fulfil the 1931 slogan to "Buy British" or even the 1968 failed campaign "I'm Backing Britain". Just like the similar "Make America Great Again"  and the nonsense of some of the Brexit supporters, these patriotic, nationalistic slogans do more harm than any good. Concentrating on making the world a better, cleaner, honest and just place would be a much better use of the money and energy spent.
