Elterwater

The hugely unreliable weather forecast was suggesting that today would be the best day of the week, dry with intermittent sunshine. Left early, parked near Skelwith Bridge and walked up towards the lake. It was very still and there were some nice tree reflections but the skies were very grey/white and there was intermittent drizzle. Conditions improved for a short period with some weak sunshine and slightly more texture to the clouds. Not great for photography but at the least the swans made an appearance to add some interest. The name Elterwater derives from Old Norse and means 'lake frequented by swans' so in that respect it lived up to its name. Langdale Pikes in the background which would be improved with some rarely seen sunshine!

Returned to Skelwith Bridge and then walked to Loughrigg Tarn and on to Loughrigg Terrace. Still fairly drab and dreary so I called it a day and returned home.

Some friends dropped in for tea and cake on their way to their holiday home in the far north of Scotland. They were accompanied by Eb and Flo, the two dogs. Eb (Ebony) is a Black Lab and Flo (Florence) a Border Terrier. Both were impeccably behaved.

Feeling a bit chuffed as a photo I shot earlier this year has been shortlisted to be the cover shot for the official 2018 Cumbria Tourism Holiday Guide. Photo in extras. You can see all the shortlisted images here ...
