Anatole's blips

A break in the rain ...

"A short spell of rain in the morning, then remaining dry for the rest of the day".  The hopeful weather forecast sees us dashing for a remote hill in the middle of Glen Etive. Needless to say the lower levels are a complete bog-fest. Once up above 600m, after a couple of hours of solid rain on the way up, it is somewhat nicer although a tad breezy. A slog up to a 700m pass from sea level gets us over onto Beinn nan Aighenan 960m (see extra). Back at the pass one thought of the bog-trot below saw us being blown over the subsidiary peak of Glas Beinn Mhor 997m, much against our better judgement. The timing was against us and the unknown route down the other side was even worse than the one we took up. We crawled back to the car at 9pm just as the last dregs of light were completely disappearing, safe in the knowledge that the well-deserved dinner at the pub was a complete no goer. Fish fingers and tea at 10 o'clock then bed for aching limbs.

The view SW from the upper flank of Beinn nan Aighenan to the far end of Loch Etive. Ben Starav climbing up on the right.

iPhone health: 22.5km, 37381 steps and 276 floors - I don't quite know how it equates 5000' to 276 floors! but the rest is probably not too far off the mark.
