Boathouse

A lovely long walk today, a complete circuit of two lakes - Grasmere and Rydal. We visited a large cave and took in some glorious views, and only got rained on a little bit.

We walked past lots of houses which had connections to Wordsworth - probably my least favourite of all the British literary icons, so they held no interest for me (although I feel like they should be of interest to an English graduate and a literature lover).

We got back just in time to head to the National Trust house which is actually in Grasmere. It's been left unpainted, so is remarkably unpretentious. We were lucky enough to see a couple of red squirrels running about in the garden. The pic in extras was sadly as close as I coud get with the camera.

At the end of the day, we rewarded ourselves with a lovely meal out in Ambleside - some amazing wild boar and venison meatballs in a stilton sauce. Mmm, yum! The food was so good we booked the same place for tomorrow night!
