Backblip: I can see for miles

We are in Montreuil-sur-Mer, which is some distance from the sea. A free Aire here allows a 48 hour stay and there is a bourne for emptying waste tanks and purchasing water and electricity. Also a (free) Superloo. The Aire takes 8 vans and there is an overflow car park. There were around two dozen vans in total last night. It must give the local economy quite a boost.

The day was superb and far more Summer than Autumn. We took Nell for a walk around the city ramparts (around 4K). There is to be an obstacle race this weekend run on, under and around the ramparts(possibly a tough mudder type of thing)  and much of the walk was interrupted by strange constructions. The walls are unlike York - it's edges all the way and extremely vertiginous drops!

Beneath the city walls there is a wonderful green area of trees and paths and allotments. It is all very verdant and the allotments grow rampant... probably would not be tolerated by the allotment committees in the UK! It was all wild and woolly and perfectly lovely.

The views from the top of the ramparts are extensive and beautiful.

We had a perfect day, including some  proper French Patisserie (OMG!) and closed the day with a twilight dog walk outside the ramparts, watching the bats emerge. There are fifteen species of bats that make their homes in the city walls.

If you haven't guessed already, I really love it here. We are staying at least one more night. There will be further patisserie. Oh, and a trip to a nationally famous fromagerie. It is all of five minutes walk away from the Aire.
