Uist Wool

In between showers we went to Grimsay, which is actually an island, but you wouldn’t know it now as it has a causeway that you hardly notice. We were searching for the remains of an Iron Age Wheelhouse, but failed to find it.

However, we did find a wonderful wool shop. The Mill and Wool Centre (website) has been open less than a year and is beautifully laid out - see extra. They buy fleece from Uist and wash, card and spin it on the premises. The result is a range of lovely knitting yarns in natural colours (no dyeing involved).

Whilst talking to the lady in the shop I discovered that they had been for the first time at the Woolfest in Cockermouth last June and had won an award for the best stand at the show. How great is that! I wasn’t at the Woolfest this year, but have been in previous years and know just how many stands there are and so what an achievement this was.

Wool was bought!

Our last day on North Uist. Tomorrow we pack up, leave this lovely house and head south.
