Rainbow

This is Doors Open Days weekend in North Lanarkshire and I was one of the volunteers at my church. The picture shows a stained glass panel in our church vestibule. It represents part of the story of Noah and the flood: the rainbow and the dove with an olive branch in its mouth.

Each year in December, on a Sunday afternoon close to Christmas, we have a service for people who have been bereaved and wish to remember their loved ones. We call it the 'Rainbow Service' as a sign of promise and hope. The design of this window was inspired by that service.

According to their website. "Doors Open Days, with Scottish Archaeology Month, form Scotland's contribution to European Heritage Days, a joint initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Union."

This is an annual event, taking place each September, with each local authority choosing a weekend to promote their buildings. In the case of North Lanarkshire, the event is run by volunteers from the community trust rather than the local authority.
