Mono Monday ~ Poem

Smart

My dad gave me one dollar bill
'Cause I'm his smartest son,
And I swapped it for two shiny quarters
'Cause two is more than one!

And then I took the quarters
And traded them to Lou
For three dimes -- I guess he didn't know
That three is more than two!

Just then, along came old blind Bates
And just  'cause he can't see
He gave me four nickels for my three dimes,
And four is more than three!

And then I took the nickels to Hiram Coombs
Down at the seed-feed store,
And the fool gave me five pennies for them,
And five is more than four!

And then I went and showed my dad,
And he got red in the cheeks
And closed his eyes and shook his head --
Too proud of me to speak!
                   Shel Silverstein

When Aaron was growing up, we loved reading Shel's poems and listening to him recite them. (if you want to hear the poem try this , it is much better recited by Shel) To this day I still love his wonderful sense of humor and the way he looks at the world.

My last visit to the surgeon was today. All is good. I can scratch that doctor off my list, but I am grateful he was there for me when I needed his skills.

Tony is in North Carolina playing in a golf tournament. I have Bunker duty so I better get the little beast fed and walked. I am surprised he hasn't been hounding me!

Thank you sk for hosting this month.
...and if the link didn't work I'll be back! You might have to start if from the beginning, but this is the best I can do! (not so SMART)
