Above eye level

Maybe its a consequence of being a meandering loafer that I give myself the opportuinity to 'stand and stare' as the saying goes. One of my favourite things is to look above eye level in towns and find the undisturbed and not so hidden gems that await a gaze. Street level generally suffer a series of adulterations that follow trends and commercial necessity, but look up and enjoy the lines and symmetry of old school architecture, the craftsmanship and materials of a long gone society that afforded life long jobs that evolved skill and discipline along with it. Yes, society and class divide was the unfair enabler and we dont want people to be exploited any more - but they had rewards we will never know in the delight of their skill and teams, from moneyman through archtect to artisan.
We of course see the real reward - if we just lift our gaze a little more skywards.
