Messenger of hope for women in Lebanon

Khaled from Norwegian People's Aid Lebanon visit Fagforbundet (Norwegian Trade Union for Municipal and General Employees) to give an update on the situation in Lebanon in general and particularly for the Palestinian, Palestinian-Syrian and Syrian refugees in Lebanon.

We support empowerments projects for women and youth in the refugee camps.

We are pleased with the news that women's organisations and human rights organisation has pressured the government to repeal a law that allowed rapists to evade punishment by marrying the rape victim.

Article 522 in Lebanon's penal code declared up to seven years in prison for rape, but that the criminal prosecution should be suspended if the rapist and the survivor marry for a minimum of three years.

Many years of campaigning against the law have at last ended a barbaric loophole in the law.
