Dougal's Anniversary

Today is the fifth anniversary of my accident, so my picture is today’s entry and I get to the write in the journal. So, now as I am ten, I have lived half my life with my back cemented together. Some of you will know that five years ago I ran behind the wheels of Mum’s car and she broke my back in three pieces. I was very lucky that not far away was Dick White Referrals, a small animal hospital that specialises in putting us very poorly animal’s back together again; Giunio Bruto Cherubini did my operation.  If you want to know what happened to me you can read all about it here.

So what have I been doing today? Well they went out this morning and when they go out we have to stay indoors and look after the house. This afternoon me and Florence have been playing in the garden and sitting in the sun when it came out, but it is windy and we do not like the wind. I was very good and did not chase her when she climbed up one of the apple trees. Giunio said I must not climb trees, but sometimes I forget even though he reminds me every year at Christmas when Mum sends him a picture of me. I have also allowed Florence to be in the extra picture, she was playing with the water and watching me pose for my picture.

I am still very nervous and not keen on loud noises, if I am in the garden when Mum starts the car’s engine I run up the back steps. My right back legs gives way sometimes, just like Daddy’s, but overall I am really fit and well.

The only thing Mum ran over today was one of the solar lights that are placed either side of the drive. She was backing Daddy’s car into the drive, (she drives his car sometimes,) and damaged it beyond repair, the solar light, not the car. Daddy was not best pleased, as he likes to mend things instead of buying new ones.
