a lifetime burning

Fore!

The first day of the golf trip to Lisbon saw us playing near Estoril.  As you can see, the weather was gorgeous, if slightly windy.  It was wonderful to get out into the fresh air and the sunshine after spending so much of August cooped up in the office.  I must plan my leave better for next year!

The day started badly when we learned that one of our party (who had done much of the organising) was unable to join us because of a family emergency.

When we then arrived at Lisbon our pre-booked transfer to Cascais where we were staying failed to arrive.  After a telephone call we established that they had made a mistake and an hour after we were due to arrive, we finally got to our hotel.  Fortunately we did not miss our first tee time.

They say that bad luck happens in 3s and in this case, it certainly seemed to.  We had arranged tickets to watch Benfica play Portimonense on the Sunday.  You can imagine our surprise when, sitting in a bar in Cascais we realised that they were playing that evening and that we had missed it!  The organiser of that part of the trip came in for quite a bit of ribbing over the course of the next few days.

Yet despite all of that, we had a wonderful day - aren't holidays great?
