Canadian Adventure

A wet cold miserable day again. So we stayed indoors . We did venture out about midday for a coffee. A short walk to subway which had this picture on the wall

A couple of hours later Christie picked us up for  BBQ at her school. It is an informal meet the teacher/parent evening. It was very pleasant as we had many of the folk last year and some at the wedding this year.
The school is a school within a school. The main building is 100 years old. It was built as a school but has been used as a hospital in a major flu eperdemic, a plane crashed here and there was an airstip here at one time. the hanger is still here too. The school is kindergarten to grade 9. within the school are two program in addition to the main stream. One is a girls only section, mainly muslim girls and they have to wear uniform. the other program is for non hearing kids, some of whom can speak and others cannot.  The later facility will be moved to south calgary school at the end of this academic year which is a shame as it will change the culture of the school. The kids with a disability are treated as normal by the other kids which is great. The chairs have tennis balls as feet so the non hearing kids with aids don't hear the screech of chairs scraped on the floor. It is a lovely facility and great environment for learning

this year Canada is 150 years old
