British War Memorial

After years of planning and more than 13000 work hours a new British War Memorial has been installed in Pukeahu National War Memorial Park.
This wonderful structure was designed and constructed by Weta Studios our very famous creator of movie content and the Anzac memorial currently at Te Papa and the War Memorial,

The Memorial takes the form of two of the UK and New Zealand’s most iconic trees, the royal oak and a pohutukawa. The leaves from both trees merge to give a sense of shelter - giving the memorial it’s name Whakaruruhau, meaning to protect.

We came upon this wonderful structure this morning as the sun was shining through the leaves and had a great chat with another local photographer ‘R’  who was also an old dog so they found that they had a lot in common.

Viewed from a different direction the figure of a soldier can be seen in the trunks.  Original story here

If you find yourself in Wellington this is a must see….
