Te wiki o te reo Maori

This is Maori language week.  At work we've been encouraged to incorporate simple Maori words or phrases into our every day teaching.  I see also that Trade Me - New Zealand's very own online marketplace, has renamed itself this week.  I note also, some politicians (who are jostling for election votes in a week or two's time) jumping into the should-we-or-shouldn't-we-make-Maori-a-compulsory-subject-in-schools? debate.

The former I see as tokenism.  The latter, electioneering but with a very valid basis for a meaningful discussion.

Until that discussion happens, I'm off back to tau hoko to see if I can find a new slat bed!
