La Vendange

While not challenging any proper local producers, we think our 18 kilos (from one vine) is pretty impressive.

This morning, up late (despite a pre-10pm bedtime), and off into town for a late-season vide grenier. CarbBoy stayed at home to do his homework (the weird thing being that that is actually what he did) and I managed to lose the others (not on purpose), so was limited in my purchsing power to what I could carry (a mirror, a hurricane lamp and a bunch of plants). Meanwhile, the others bought heating pads for lizards we don't have...

Post-lunch, Mr B decided it was harvest time. We all took a guess (village fair style) on the weight, and CarbBoy was within a few hundred grams (we were all several kilos off). MrB wanted to do a whole spiel about the wisdom of crowds, but turns out CarbBoy was wiser than this crowd...

Obviously, once the fun of picking was over, everyone beat a hasty retreat before it was processing time, though the kids did come and help (reluctantly) with stripping the washed grapes and (CarbBoy only - very enthusiastically) with squishing them. The quantity of grapes greatly exceeded the alcohol we had to make Carthagène, so we have planned pickled grapes and grape jelly for my to-do list tomorrow.

The grapiness had to be chivied out of the way quickly to clear the kitchen for a roast pork dinner which, ironically, could have done with some grape jelly in the gravy.

Later, amusing rabbit, carrot and rug antics, and the first few episodes of Buffy.
