Fire in the Gorge

The freeway on the Oregon side of the Gorge is still closed to east bound traffic, but the west bound lanes were opened a few days ago. The fire has grown to 45,579 acres, and was 32 % contained as of yesterday afternoon. 
Driving home today we got to see some of the destruction of the fire. There were areas still burning, and some burnt areas right next to the road. But largely the Gorge still seems green and impressive. Much work is going on to clean the burned trees near the road, and stabilize the damaged hillsides, so the east bound lanes can be safely opened as well.
And now it has started to rain!
