View towards downtown Lübeck

A day in Lübeck, the former Queen of the Hanseatic League and a world heritage sight of brick gothic architecture. Not only are there plenty of gorgeous churches and other large buildings in the old town / downtown, but the townscape in general is still a lot like in the 16th. and 17th. century. There are about 1800 listed historical buildings in Lübeck. Not only are the streets filled with impressive brick gothic houses, but many houses have small openings that lead through narrow alleways into courtyards ("gänge und höfe") that were originally built for the working class. Many courtyards now have beautiful gardens. A very beautiful and historical town.
