Common Green Lacewing

I found this beautiful lacewing in a tiny puddle on my veranda, and it was bedraggled and cold. Drying out on my coffee table, he soon perked up and then was quite happy for me to zoom in and admire his gorgeous copper-coloured eyes and delicately veined translucent wings.

I have since discovered that there are 14 species of green lacewing in the UK and 29 species of brown lacewing. Both adults and larvae feed on aphids and are widely found in parks, woods and meadows.
