Pedicure

A lovely walk and a nice lunch with friends helped us recover from the weekend of music and late nights. We spend an inordinate amount of time hanging over the railing in the yacht harbor and gawking at this otter. He was grooming, and grooming. And grooming. We looked it up: otters spend several hours a day fluffing out their fur to maintain its insulating qualities. How flexible they are! There was so much going on in this moment--all the concentric circles generated by the otter's rolling, the vertical moving reflections of the boat masts, and the nonstop antics of this funny creature--licking its toes, scrubbing its face, twisting and arcing and nibbling, all the while very aware of its surroundings.
