A Bit of History

This building is at Pecket Well on the road from Hebden Bridge to Keighley.  It opened c.1878 as the Pecket Well Industrial & Co-operative Society. In 1936 it was taken over by the Hebden Bridge Industrial Co-operative Society Ltd but closed down in 1967 when the Society went into liquidation following forgery, falsification of accounts and theft by one of its officers.
It remained empty until in 1992 when it became Pecket Well College, an adult literacy college and residential centre.
This continued, with some success, until 2010 when it closed due to lack of funding.
As you can see, it remains empty, but the sign is still there as a bit of history.
