The Shamrock Inn

My recent visit to Old Government House has revived my interest in historical buildings. Expect to see more blips on such themes. This is the Shamrock Inn, built around 1840. After the Victoria Pass was opened in 1832, facilitating larger volumes of settlers and freight for the west, all manner of small inns were hurriedly thrown together in the Hartley Valley area because it represented a logical second day's stopping off point in a journey from Parramatta by horseback or carriage. Business was especially brisk during the soon-to-follow Bathurst gold rush.

I must confess, the urge to render such pictures in antique sepia format is overwhelming. I really can't help meself.
