Pictorial blethers

Mediaeval

I could have blipped a photo of a wonderful mediaeval fresco of St Peter, whose eyes seemed to follow me when our guide seized me for a spot of illustrative dalliance; I could have shown the chilly throne room of the 12th century castle of Prunetto. But I think this is a better photo, and I love the way that the castle was illuminated by flaming torches rather than the electric candles so beloved of most of the churches we've visited.

I'm so glad not to have lived in the Middle Ages: even on a sunny September day it was decidedly chilly in the stone keep.
